1. Open just the SSL port 992 through your firewall. Create an ACL to allow only those who need access. (That is if they have a static IP address.)
2. Configure Telnet to require user certificates and issue to the users who need remote access.
3. Get a proxy device to forward an obscure port to 992 on the iSeries.
So many ways to secure the connection I will not list any more. It all depends on your tolerance level and security requirements.
