Perform a "D" IPL from a SLIC CD.

If you look at the DASD unit it will most likely be marked something like "DPH001" meaning read only.

Start SST:
Work with disk units
Work with Disk Unit Recovery
Disk unit problem recovery procedures
Initialize and format disk unit

Obviously something's different now with POWER5 and higher...

But your 270 is older...

IIRC, there was a way to reformat the pSeries drive for use in an
iSeries..but a quick google search didn't turn up anything...
