The v5r4 Infocenter has a sample.
I could not find anything that says printer cannot use host print transform.
Spooled file does need to be *afpds

I don't have a v5r4 system to try - I would make sure you are up to date with Printer ptf group.

understanding is host print transform is not supported. Any chance you
