I think that is the easiest way. At least, I find it comes to mind
easily, is pretty easy to write, and is pretty easy to understand (by
someone reading it later, including myself)... what else do you need?

I am not ruling out the existence of a better way, but in my opinion
the way you've described is Plenty Good Enough.
