I just re-read your post and seems like you can browse using IP address.
This noon was strange too, the DNS of our IBM i server and couple of other Servers located in Utah stopped responding for a while from couple places outside the US, they were using the DNS name, but they were reachable using IP address.
I'm wondering if that was a hiccup on some DNS server somewhere...

Somehow I have managed to screw up my i5 connection via windows explorer using the DNS name.
I can ping the system using the name, and I can telnet/ftp to it using that same name, but when I try to browse the shared folders in the IFS, I get a windows error, "\\system is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The user name could not be found."
I should note too, that I can browse using the IP address, but not the name.
The system is an i5 520, running at V5R4.
