Thanks Pete,
This machine is at V7.1 TR2, soon to be TR3. All of the current HDDs
are in 4 5886 drawers, controlled by a 575C controller in an external
5796 enclosure. That's why I thought that I could put SSDs in the
(empty) CEC.
I could understand (although I'd be disappointed) if this CEC does not
support the newer 177 GB SSDs, but based on the table on page 185 of the
Power6 System Builder I was sure that it would support the older 69 GB
SSDs. (Specifically: FC1909)
What are we missing?

Scott,
This machine is certainly capable of running SSDs at 6.1 or 7.1.
Now, there are many different SSDs that it can be installed, but based
upon what you already have was the BP saying that he couldn't add them
to the current configuration, and that he might need to add a draw?
That can be the case. You don't want to mix SSD drives and Hard drives
on the same disk controller.

We have a Power 6 550 (8204-E8A) with a 57B7/57B8 storage controller.
It was my understanding that when we purchased this model it was capable
of running SSDs but our BP is now telling me that it is not. Is this
really that case?
All six slots in the CEC are available for use.
