Since you're already using QShell to launch the sftp command, wouldn't it be easier to use QShell to write the script as well? Just a thought.

The data file is being created as a flat file with the pipe delimiter. If
I use the CPYTOIMPF command to place the file in the IFS, then I should be
able to send that file to the vendor.

Wouldn't it make more sense to use CPYTOSTMF?

Just in case you are new to the IFS, I'll explain:

-- CPYTOIMPF is for files that have fields defined in them.
It reads the data on a field-by-field basis, converting
each individual field to human-readable text, and
optionally inserting delimiters.

-- CPYTOSTMF is for files that don't have fields defined.
(aka "flat" files.) It works on a record-by-record
basis, and treats the entire record as a single character
string.

In an attempt to prevent mistakes, CPYTOSTMF verifies that your program doesn't have fields defined, and will refuse to work on files that have fields in them. (Except SRCPFs.)
