Yes that apar description does go back quite some time. In fact many
of those files were heavily used by Office Vision/400. They are not
disposable yet even though OV/400 hasn't been supported since V4R5
as they are also used elsewhere.
FWiW there was an interactive feature for OV, and a run-time feature.
What was part of the OS was run-time, what was not was IIRC, in
library QOFC. While few probably take advantage, the run-time still
exists. AFaIK a PRTDOC request [perhaps compiled in a CLP] from a
decade ago could still produce the "same" output as it did back then.
And if that document were defined to produce for example, a multi-copy
document with column-list merge, then that request could be producing
those "letters" from current data. Thus if some of the run-time depends
on any of those files, then the files can not go away until the run-time
support is removed as well.... which AFaIK, has never been announced.
