Thank you, Alan and Chuck!
Per Alan's suggestion, I searched the archives and found an earlier post from Chuck (
http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/201004/msg00071.html) that pointed here:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=%2Fapis%2FQSPRILSP.htm
and then googling on QSPRILSP led me here:
http://www.think400.dk/apier_5.htm#eks0010, where there are some API examples by Carsten Flensburg, including one for QSPRILSP. I put it into my program, and I'm all set.
I considered looking at SPLFOWN(), but this is a case where the print program is used everywhere, and I really preferred not having to touch it if I don't have to. Plus, the API grabs exactly what I need, while changing the ownership of the spool file
might have muddied things a little (several different users will be doing this, and I don't want their files to get mixed up).
So, I'm all set -- thank you!! Once again, this list is great. And thanks also for the explanation of why this happens ...
