What happens if you format the cell as a date?  For example if I type in 
1098 into an unformatted cell, then that's what displays.  If I then 
format the cell in Excel as a date, and I choose this format, I will see 
1/2/1903.  31098 becomes 2/20/1985
Don't want the users to have to mess with that?  Then use SQL2XLS or 
something else that creates a formatted excel spreadsheet on your i's 
stream file system and have the user access that instead.  See also:
