We wrote a program to read a temporary directory and move the files to an organized directory structure. We put the original source directory and file name into the database along with the fully qualified path to the file . We also retained the original file attributes in the database. We now search the database in milliseconds with some 5 million records and growing. File retrieval is instantaneous using the fully qualified path. No more directory listings / searches. All written in RPG using IFS API's.
