Trigger programs that are attached to a database file only need the database trigger action to be initiated. That can be done with any utility such as DFU. UPDDTA on any externally described file, (that does not have those special fields that require SQL to access), can fire off the trigger action, thus calling the trigger program attached to the database operation.

STRDBG on the trigger program before starting DFU on the file. Works like a charm and a totally free utility. Try it someday.
