No, it is just like that here. Every company I have heard of insists
that anything you develop on their machines belongs to them. A lot of
the companies even have stricter language than that. For example, if
you bring your own machine to work, but use that machine during work
hours, then many (or most?) employers insist that the material
developed on that machine also belongs to the employer. In other
words, the employer owns you and everything you do while you work for
them. (And then they also say if you leave the company, you can't
work for their competitors for some period of time.)
