this did have a strange outcome....
I changed the paper size to "custom", and said
width as 11, height as 8.5.

the resulting document opened in what appears to be landscape mode,
BUT the overlay is still sideways, top pointing to the right, with the leftmost portion of the overlay cut off...

I have had this problem before, but a long time ago. My memory is that
the final solution I came up with made sense, was simple, and not at all
obvious.

I know this is a stupid question. Can you change the paper size to 11"
by 8.5" instead of 8.5" by 11"? If so, then run everything as portrait?

thanks, here are my results when I change the drivers orientation
setting:

default appears to be landscape, resulting afp document opens in afp
viewer as portrait, top oriented to right.
when I use landscape(270) resulting afp document opens as portrait, top
oriented to left.
when I use portrait, resulting afp document opens in afp viewer as
portrait, top being oriented to right.
when I use portrait(180), resulting afp document opens in afp viewer as
portrait, top being oriented to right...

ARGH!!!!!!!

Try taking away one "landscape" setting. That may be rotating it 90
degrees twice.

Thanks Michael,
I have selected output type as overlay.
the document is set as "landscape" in Word.
in printer properties, for the AFP printer,

I have Paper size set as Letter (8.5 x 11 in),
Orentation as : Landscape.

however the resulting AFP document opens in the AFP viewer as
portrait, and when I take it up to the system i, it overlays as
portrait...

Make sure in the printer properties that you specify Output Type as
Overlay. You can also set the Orientation and Paper Size.

I have a word document, that is in landscape mode.
I am trying to use the afp print driver, to create an overlay.
I have tried lots of different settings with the driver, but I can't
get
the correct combination.

Can someone help me?

thanks...
