Craig,

In my original post I noted that I had, indeed, installed both versions of the vcredist executable. What IBM fails to mention (at least where I was easily able to read it) was that even though it says "IBM i Access for Windows will run both 32 and 64 bit executables on a 64 bit PC." it will not *install* using the SI45664_32.exe update on a 64bit PC.

Again, the vcredist executable isn't the issue. The issue was that the Control Panel clearly states that the version of IBM i Access is *32* bit, NOT 64 bit, which would lead someone to think that they should download and run the SI45664_32.exe not the SI45664_64a.exe. That is what derailed me. Who woulda thunk that even though Control Panel says that you are running 32 bit i Access you have to run the SI45664_64a.exe?

Download and install the correct vcredist_XXXX.exe file for your system. If
you have a 64 bit system, in addition to installing the correct
vcredist_XXXX.exe file for your 64 bit system, you will also need to install
vcredist_x86.exe (32 bit version) since IBM i Access for Windows will run
both 32 and 64 bit executables on a 64 bit PC.

Microsoft download page for the vcredist_XXXX.exe files:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347

On the MSFT site, there are three .exe files:

vcredist_IA64.EXE - you only need this if you are using an Intel Itanium CPU
(this is very uncommon)

vcredist_x64.EXE - the 64 bit file

vcredist_x86.EXE - the 32 bit file

The _x64.EXE and _x86.EXE files will be needed for most 64-bit systems.
After installing both of those, you should be able to install IBM i Access
for Windows Service Packs.

You are right! But the weirdness is that the Control Panel Applet says "IBM
i Access for Windows (32bit)" which would lead one to believe that it was
the 32 bit version one needed to download. But, it turns out the the 64 bit
download was needed even though it all installs in the "C:\Program Files
(x86)\IBM\Client Access" folder (WHAT????)

The 64bit install is what works so I can only assume that it means a 64 bit
*installer* that installs a 32bit version......too late in the day to
ponder why.....

Thanks!

Shouldn't you be installing the 64bit version if the OS is 64bit? Just
a thought.
