Change controller of a display device

The task is done. I was wondering if there was a better method since v5r4.

Background: Had to create 40+ display devices. AUTO-config is OFF.
I stared adding the new dices to QVIRCD007. That got full, so I moved
to QVIRCD006. Then, since that controller would likely fill as well.
I created QVIRCD008. Idea came to me to move the new devices from
controller 6 and 7 to the new controller. At v5r4, there is no option
to change the controller in the device description. So, I renamed
them, then created a copy on controller 8, and deleted the renamed
devices.

Was there an easier way to do this? Does a more recent version of the
OS allow the CHGDEVD command to make that change? Was there a command
at v5r4 that would have allowed me to change the controller?
