Well, if you aren't insisting on being able to read it in RPG with CHAIN
or READ but are open to embedded sql then it's quite easy to do
select * from masterfile where (UPC1=:UpcVariable or UPC2=:UpcVariable)
You'd get better performance if there were two indexes over masterfile.
One by UPC1 and one by UPC2.
