Sorry I was apparently not clear.  The procedure I like to follow:

1.  Create tape image catalog, virtual tape device and a virtual tape 
large enough to hold the image catalog and the IFS files.

2) Duplicate the Tape Image catalog etc on the target box.

Steps one and two need to be done once per box.

3) Save the Image catalog and the IFS directories to the virtual tape.  
Virtual tape allows you use both the SAVOBJ and the SAV commands needed 
to the same tape volume.

4)  FTP the tape volume over to the target box

5) Restore Image catalog and IFS images

6) Do what's next with the image catalog.

Step 5 is the FTP part.

BTW:  If you have EE set up per our earlier discussion, you can just use 
SAVRSTOBJ for the image catalog and SAVRST for the IFS too.  Works 
well.   One really quick CLP away from automating it....
