SPF lets them specify, by domain name, where emails originate. As long as they configure that properly, they should be fine. The IBM server would either have a public IP address or NAT to a public IP address or relay all the messages through another server. Wherever that public IP ends up needs to be listed, in some fashion, in the SPF record.

Subject: IBM i - SPF - An Mail Relay
Hello list.
I have a customer who wants to implement SPF for their domain. Their IBM
i issues email messages, which I understand are relayed through the SMTP
server on the i. In researching SPF, it appears like it may not like
message relays.
Is there a chance that implementing SPF will stop the email messages being
sent from their i?
