What flipping difference does it make.

Stop someone and ask them what they have for a computer and 99% will say windows or Mac and that's it

They don't say oh I use snow leopard or I'm a windows xp user.

I have PC-DOS 2000 on my DOS boxes, including the DOS side of my dual-boot. (I don't allow WinDoze in my home.)

I have Mac OS 8 on my Performa, Tiger on my "Bionic Desk-Lamp" iMac, and Ubuntu Hardy Heron on the Linux side of my dual-boot.

My Nexus 7 tablet has whatever version of Android came on it (I can never keep those versions straight).

My work WinDoze box runs XP, and my brand new work Mac Mini runs Mountain Lion.

And we have AS/400s at V4R2, V4R4, V5R2, and V6.

And when you're trying to keep software running across multiple OS versions (and multiple client platforms), it makes a lot of "flipping difference."
