That's the part that I haven't gotten yet but should have in a few days from my business partner. To my understanding, the Pure system may have additional discounts based on the variety of hardware in it. That is, if it's just a Power 'blade' (or compute node as referenced in Nathan's reply), it might be one discount but if I use x86, then it might be more. Not really sure yet.

I guess I'm trying to understand what the benefit is and it's not that clear. This upgrade was starting as a Power 740 but kinda morphed into the PureFlex.

I'm not looking to roll out a bunch of iSeries LPARs and, god forbid, we make it easier to roll out more windows servers (I'm also responsible for enterprise storage at my location - So I can comment :) ).

Was wondering if anyone's looked at them and decided one way or another if it fit their situation.

Mike, if you have a solid BP and you pass this by them, what are the
numbers for either system looking like, does one far outweigh the other on
workload consolidation and core pricing.

Mike,

Some of your terminology is throwing me off. Flex "compute nodes" are not
"blades", for instance. And as far as I know they don't come in 2-core
configurations. It sounds like you may be better off down-sizing from a 550
to a 720, or possibly one 720 for IBM i and another for AIX.

I think that Pure Flex configurations are really geared for very large
data centers and massive parallel compute capacity.
