Methinks Rob is getting into this LPAR thing a bit deep for the middle of the week......

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but you ask about saving both at the same time but then discuss liking two separate saves?

You can go either way:

IF you shut down the GUEST and the NWSSTG objects are flagged ALWSAV of *YES then you get both in a SAVE 21. Nice for DR but NO Granular restore for the GUEST - All or nothing.

IF You leave the GUEST running and either omit /qfpnwsstg or flag the objects ALWSAV *NO then your save 21 of the host will not contain the guest storage. At the same time (if you have two tape drives AND are a glutton for I/O abuse) you could be saving the GUEST to another drive. If you have only one tape drive (which I am guessing from earlier notes.) then you can save the one, and then save the other. Just don't do what one of my customers did: Attempt to use the same tape for both SAVE 21s. Oops.

Can I save GUEST and HOST lpar at the same time with full system save? I

So if I end HOST to restricted state, can GUEST keep running?

I like the granularity of doing the full system save on GUEST versus just
relying upon the save of HOST. That, and the concern about restoring the
SRM on new hardware, if needed.
