Yes, people who start out with techniques they used to manage disk back on
2GB machines on modern multi TB without even perusing RTVDSKINF&PRTDSKINF
tickle me.

Then again, starting a restore of one stream file (aka IFS) directory when
your machine is like ~10% full and you have six 140GB drives to find out
your at 99% and you're not even on the last tape yet (of just that
directory) does go to show you can fill disk fast.
