That is true. That is the built in controller and you have to remove the controller to change the battery. Make sure you end to restricted state, go into SST and take the option to disable the cache, (Flush it) before shutting down. Once shut down you can slide the raid controller out from the from of the box and replace the battery. Make sure there is no battery connected for a couple of minutes so the card detect the battery change. If you are too fast, it will still tell you that the battery needs to be replaced.
