All the previous suggestions so far have you writing programs. We have in the past put a program in a universally accessible file share (program such as Irfanview image viewing program) and just call

STRPCCMD "\\fileshare\sharename\irfanview.exe \\imageshare\B01291AA.BID"

This doesn't require writing any programs, however you are limited to some really small character set count with STRPCCMD, I believe its 128 characters. So keep your file share and program names short.

Just an FYI, content manager overlays data over the top of TIF files using a very proprietary MODCA file format that is not documented very well and doesn't follow any sort of standardized format. So obviously you won't be able to see those overlays in your TIFF image viewer.

Subject: view ifs image and specify viewer with strpccmd

I have in the past used STRPCCMD to view an image stored in the IFS from a iSeries Access 5250 session, by using a http:// url and let the browser select the viewer based in doc suffix (like .pdf).
However we have an issue where the doc name is "non-standard" like B01291AA.BID  (this is IBM Content Manager stuff) and need to tell the browser what viewer to use (it's tif or pdf) and need to view on pc with no Content Manager client.
It is not an option to rename the image file.
Is this possible? Most likely tif and want to use Win native fax viewer in STRPCCMD command.
pdf's would use Adobe Reader.
TIA
Jim Franz
