Assuming SCNVAR returns the position of the pattern in the text in a variable named &I, you can just do something like this:

CHGVAR VAR(%SST(&TEXT &I 5)) VALUE('TEST ')

Like PL/I, CL allows the use of %SST on the left-hand side of an assignment (the CHGVAR statement). This has been in CL for many years.

The only "caveat" is that you must know the length of the part to be replaced, so you cannot replace it with longer or shorter text using this technique.

jde_TEST_report@xxxxxxxxxxxxx


If run on a production LPAR, the environment would resolve to:

jde_PROD_report@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
