HMC network install of V7R1 i5OS from DSLO image catalog, including all PTFs

I'm testing a v6R1 to V7R1 i5OS upgrade via HMC network install using a DSLO image that also includes all PTFS.
Purpose is to shrink the upgrade window, eliminate some PTF IPLs
Original test was V7R1 new network install via image created from media, this works.
Then obtained and perm applied all V7R1 latest CUM and all groups.
Created a DSLO image, moved to other V6R1 partition.
Wiped the V7R1 partition, and using the DSLO combined image, attempting install
Network LIC install from DLSO image, no problem.
Network install of i5OS fails, Searching optical for install media
Main Storage Dump sent to IBM, open PMR, development says should work, but they have not seen it done.
Has anyone worked with HMC network installs, DSLO images, or both.
