Start with Chris Date's book, An Introduction to Database Systems, ISBN 0-321-19784-4. It is still the standard.

Thanks!

Looks like there are quite a few classes at coursera.org that will be helpful. Although I've worked with MySQL and perl/DBI in the past, I've never studied database design.

Coursera is an excelent place to learn. It does not run on i, but it
does not promote use of windos. According to "netcraft.net" it uses Linux.
I think IBM should cooperate providing some clases on RPG and CL.
Clases on algorithms, databases, cryptograpfy, etc. aply to the i
environment.
A class in Systematic program design is planned in two weeks from now.
Go to www.coursera.org

Enjoy
