The UPS has a communications cable coming out of it which terminates in
a DB9 male. Pins 5-9 are populated.
The server has an adapter cable IBM p/n 46K5108. One end is an RJ45 and
that end is plugged into port S2. The other end is a DB9 female.
It would seem like a no-brainer to plug the DB9 male from the UPS into
the DB9 female coming from the Power 7, but I'm wary of that because the

doesn't mention an RJ45 cable with a DB9 female.
It DOES mention a f/c 3930 adapter from RJ45 to DB9 male and it also
mentions a f/c 1827 adapter cable which is a DB9 female to DB9 female.
It seems to me that the f/c 1827 is necessary to tell the service
processor a UPS is attached because it ties pins 2 and 7 together on the
server side.
My system order shows that I ordered an 1827 but of course I can't
locate it from 9 months ago. I can make one up easily enough, so that's
not a show stopper.
Do I trust the manual or is there a newer reference I should be looking
at? I'm not plugging anything into the back of the server until I am
convinced that it's OK to do so.
