I agree with Pete. I too am all for upgrading to the latest. But do it
smartly.

Start out by reading this:
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v7r1m0/topic/rzaq9/rzaq9.pdf

Being aware of this:
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/osmapping.html
and it's related:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssm1platformibmi

Read also this:
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/v7r1/index.html

If you run Domino make sure you have your ducks in a row with this:
http://www.ibm.com/systems/resources/systems_power_ibmi_lotus_releasesupport.pdf

Check to see if your vendor requires that you be on a certain release. If
they still do not support 7.1 at all - dump them. They're stealing your
maintenance money, laying off developers and giving it all to their
holding company.
