RE: Flat file comparision

A sure way to tell if two files contain the same data is to calculate the hash (MD5, SHA, et) of each and compare them. You could do this via an API in RPG:

or you could do it via PASE or QSHELL using the unix-like tools there:

Or you could roll your own, since you don't really need a cryptographically secure hash, just one that's suitably unique.

I believe CMPPFM?display that two files are different(even if two files are identical in terms of contents of the files)?if it finds >differences in timestamp fields.? My vendor sends a file everyday and it does not have date in it, I am only looking to compare the?>content of the files and if both are identical throw an alert.? I don't think?CMPPFM may work.
