LTO drives are normally much faster than disk to disk saves. See previous
emails about enough arms, a separate asp with it's own disk controllers,
etc.
That being said we do use one virtual tape save on a nightly basis, ftp it
to another system, and use BRMS to dup that to physical tape. From there
our operator sends the tape off to Iron Mountain.
All lpars have BRMS. And, yes, if done right you can do a WRKLNKBRM from
the source system and it will tell you the name of the physical tape
created on the target system which contains that data.

So, at 5am we save off the data, using BRMS, to virtual tape VRT001. Then
we ftp it to another system. Sometime later it does a DUPMEDBRM from
virtual tape to physical tape.
How does one omit the directory from being saved with BRMS? Easy. One
way:
WRKCTLGBRM
2=Edit entries
I positioned on line 30 and then hit F10=Change item. Just like the SAV
command you can add an *OMIT line for the directory containing your image
catalogs.
