I do agree that scripting languages like Python can simplify a lot of
issues, including the one this thread refers to. Nevertheless, much as I
would like to implement some of these solutions, I have to think in terms
of the company I work for, and its resource limitations (both human and
otherwise).
It is just recently that I have got my project manager to really accept the
benefits of SQL (about three years ago she told me she didn't really trust
all that "newfangled stuff" :-( ). Some other things, like reading IFS
files, using service programs, etc, are a little beyond their expertise,
and I use them under the "black box" concept: They work, so my boss does
not mind too much. Just the same, I don't like the fact that I'm the only
one who really understand all that "new" stuff...
As I think I wrote you before, I really want to work a little with Python
(In fact, I installed it in our V5R3 520). If I get the time, maybe I could
write some more black boxes, and they won't really mind seeing that weird
stuff :-)
