Thanks,
Several others have made similar suggestions and I am wondering how
easy it would be to have a "programmed" solution.
My experience is very limited with zip/unzip on iSeries,
have only used QSH Command Entry such as "jar xf somearc.zip"
Not yet working on the project that got me asking questions
(boss my/may not assign this to me), but when I saw that
V7R1 has zip/upzip support I assumed that would be an
easier way to have a "hands free" solution.
Any reason not to use system i API zip/unzip ?
(currently looking at API example by Carsten Flensburg,

At our shop using jar appeared to be faster than QZipZip.

Thanks John! (can't imagine a snotty response from you) and I found the 7.1 QZIPUTIL API at the midrange link you provided, which should fit our need for a programmed solution.
And "Thank You" to David and Buck for the JAR and gzip hints.

This comes up frequently. You could search the archives. So that I don't come across as *too* snotty, here's a link to a nice summary:

One choice that often comes up which isn't in the above summary is
www.arpeggiosoftware.com/arpzip
