I would have no issue running 24 SSDs and an additional 48
'Spinny' disks on a pair of 5913s.

Well, I would say it depends on your performance needs. I/Os
for the SSDs can queue up behind I/Os for the 48 HDDs. Because
of this, best practice recommendation is to isolate the SSDs to
their own adapter pair or be prepared to isolate them.
