FWiW: Looking at a document that refers to emulation including 5224, in its "Appendix A. Error Codes and Messages", there is the following information shown in a table under a heading "Output Data Field Values (5219 and 5224 Printer Emulation)":
Value: "03"
Operator Action: "Automatic sheet feed selected. Install appropriate device."

While that may or may not actually translate the "error code of 3" of the actual physical\hardware printer. Perhaps that table "Figure A-1" may be worth review, for the possibility that the error codes might have some correlation.?
