Rob,
I only keep the last two PTF Group levels, older Groups are auto deleted.
SI45555 and SI45463 were superseded.
Does this only pertain to Sametime?
This is a 7.1 system, is the same issue on a 6.1 system?

<snip>
Can you check your system and verify if Java Group PTF level 8 is installed. This group PTF level contains JDK6032 SR10 (PTF's SI45555 and SI45463). Due to a Java incompatibility problem, these PTF's will cause an upgrade to Sametime 8.5.2 IFR1 to fail.
</snip>
WRKPTFGRP PTFGRP(SF99572) PTFGRPLVL(*LATEST)
PTF Group Level Status
SF99572 14 Installed
The issue was from 6 ptf levels back. Now I suppose the birdie is in Sametime's court? I'm just tired of playing the birdie. Let me guess, "if only I'd upgrade to sametime 9.0.1...".

Rob,
I'd like to know more about your java PTF issue, the Java PTFs always
scare me.
Only ever had one bad PTF experience
Back in 03, a DB PTF caused certain opnqryf to give incorrect output,
broke production, PTF was then determined to be defective, had to IPL to
remove.
Has anyone found an easier way to review all the PTF cover letters,
without having to visit every PTF individually.
I wrote a little utility to dump/combine all the cover letters, for
Description, Special instructions, Corrections, and IPL action
1) DSPPTF LICPGM(*ALL) SELECT(*ALL) RLS(*ALL)
OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(QGPL/PTF)
2) CPYF FROMFILE(QGPL/QAPZCOVER) TOFILE(QGPL/QAPZCOVERC)
FROMMBR(*ALL) MBROPT (*REPLACE) CRTFILE(*YES)
3) RPGLE pgm that selects the description, beginning to end
of the cover letters.
4) RUNQRY QRY(PTFCOVSUM) dumps to printfile

Sometimes there are things that occur only when the moon is full. Let me
give you an example. The government changes the date when daylight
savings time occurs. Without being current on PTFs you will get burned.
(Unless you're in Arizona.)
Let's say that it uses Java or some such thing under the covers to send
hardware alerts or whatnot. And it does some sort of SSL communication. A
PTF could bring down a new certificate to replace one that is about to
expire.
Search the following for 'integrity'
http://www-912.ibm.com/a_dir/as4ptf.nsf/$$search?openform
IBM fixes a lot of holes. Holes bad enough that they won't put what they
were in the ptf cover letter.
These are things which could affect you even if you're running in a fat,
dumb, and happy environment doing the same application you've been running
for the last 15 years.
Can PTF application cause issues? You betcha. There's just something
invigorating about having to run ENDJOBABN several times a day because a
currently supported version of Sametime, on a currently supported version
of the OS, and both are supported for each other, stops working because
the Java group ptf (several levels down) is too new. (current open
pmr...)
