Are optional parameters possible in CLLE ?

Absolutely. The main thing you need to do is check for MCH3601
whenever you attempt to use the optional parameter.

So, for example, the top of your program could be

PGM PARM(&OPTPARM)
DCL &OPTPARM *CHAR 10

And later, you have something like

CHGVAR VAR(&MYVAR) VALUE(&OPTPARM)
MONMSG MSGID(MCH3601) EXEC(DO)
RCVMSG MSGTYPE(*EXCP) RMV(*YES)
CHGVAR VAR(&MYVAR) VALUE(' ')
ENDDO

(The above sets &MYVAR to blank when &OPTPARM is not present.)
