I agree. SAVCHGOBJ isn't worth it for us either.

Trevor, This is how SAVCHGOBJ is designed to work
You do a full save on tape BR0291.
You do a SAVCHGOBJ on the next day and the only objects that changed were
A, B, C on BR0484
On the day after the SAVCHGOBJ gets C, X, Y on BR0119
So now, to do a full save of all the objects you will need all three
tapes.

But, as most people find out, 90% of your objects get changed every day so
SAVCHGOBJ doesn't bring much to the party. Ok. So it skips those three
files that are only updated at month end. But let's say your biggest
files are transactionHistory, ItemMaster, OrderHeader, OrderDetail. I
hope to Christ your business is busy enough that those get updated at
least daily. Therefore they will appear on every SAVCHGOBJ.
