We should be,
everything gets done faster, you get more done, boss is happy, your're happy, more Miller time, and it's good for the IBM economy.
Will my current SSD go into Power8, probably not.

True, with one caveat; internal disks hosted by IBM i. Not internal disks hosted by vios to IBM i.
But, the difference between internal IBM i hosted disks, and external disks hosted through vios to IBM i, is supposed to be diminishing where it's not the sole factor in the decision.
If speed were the sole factor we'd all be running all SSD's, right?

I have also heard this repeated by several IBMers in the past. At the
time it sounded like there was no technical reason for it, mostly a
support issue. As in getting someone VIOS (AIX) fluent to talk about disk
storage with someone i fluent.
Is this still the case, or have the support issues been ironed out? I
attended several VIOS sessions in Austin and it appears that VIOS is
getting better all the time so it may become a viable tool for us in the
future.

suggested that I reserve hosting IBM i disk under vios to only SAN
attached storage. And not internal drives.
