Whatever you do, if you DO 'have' to use an extended field, do everything
in your power to make the shorter one not be used because it's "close
enough". For example, do not leave the first 15 characters in there and
overflow the rest into the extended column. Make the extended column
contain the full value and put a substitution value in the original
shorter one.
