My employer uses third-party software hosted by the vendor. System-admin scheduling, IPL's all that are handled by the vendor, and that's great, but it's according to our company's convenience. This relates to which accounting year the user company actually uses, and a bunch of other things, and isolates system-level issues.
I was delighted to have a dedicated system for Y2K preparation, the employer at that time got it for that and to use afterward for a subsidiary company. I was able to change that system date and get the effects, or rather prove there were no adverse consequences on the other side of that midnight. System date was widely used in the base code.
