Dale,

I am just confused that my end program works to end MYSQL but my start
program does not in QSH.

This cl program ends mysql:
QSH CMD('cd +
/QOpenSys/usr/local/mysql/mysql-5.1.39-i5os+
-power-64bit; bin/mysqladmin -u root shutdown')

But this cl program will not start it
QSH CMD('cd +
/QOpenSys/usr/local/mysql/mysql-5.1.39-i5os+
-power-64bit; bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql &')

I can't see much difference between these two. change directory to a big

long path, then call an executable program, with parameters

The difference, IIRC, is that mysqld is multithreaded (since it's a
full-fledged server application), whereas mysqladmin (being a simple
utility) is not. The threading MySQL uses is based on standard POSIX
pthreads, which QSH does not support.

When I run this command:
CALL PGM(QP2SHELL) +
PARM('/QOpenSys/usr/local/mysql/mysql-5.1.3+
9-i5os-power-64bit/bin/mysqld_safe'+
'--user=mysql &')

I get this error
Make sure you have a space before the "+" when separating the PARM
arguments.
Like so:
9-i5os-power-64bit/bin/mysqld_safe' +
instead of
9-i5os-power-64bit/bin/mysqld_safe'+

Hope that helps,
Tim
