For IBM i 6,1, IBM will end marketing on December 9, 2014 and end of support will be September 30, 2015
Just an FYI, Feature numbers will remain in place to allow:
Group-to-group upgrades
Transfers from one machine to another
Increasing authorized use (for example, processor or user entitlements)
IBM intends to announce a fee-based extended service offering.
Hardware maintenance is not affected by this announcement.
Most people should be thinking of upgrading to 7.1 or 7.2 at this point as both are extremely stable. Also, I would rather IBM invest in new features, functions, etc by coming out with new TRs and PTFs for current releases and future releases, than putting money into 6.1, when people should be migrating to a new version of the OS.
