At first I couldn't see the big deal here, but are you saying that, in
order to run JDE on something higher than 6.1 you'll have to upgrade your
version of JDE to be compatible?
I can see that being a pain. But, since you're keeping it around for a
few years it might be worth it to do so. Especially since support for 6.1
will be removed long before then.
