Not so good. As I had noted in my prior reply [although for this specific example, arguably incorrectly implying a more problematic effect than actual, except if width=zero is allowed], the expression "SUBSTR((IXXXX*10000),1,5)" is flawed because the result of the implicit cast to character of (IXXXX*10000) results in a string value that is a _left-justified_ numeric representation, so the first five characters are not in fixed positions, but the substring operation is coded such that the result must be static in size. The following example exhibits the flaw:
