There's usually an SQLxxxx message sent for any SQLCODE - in a program, 
you can check SQLCODE.

On a command line, look in the job log - here's the SQL793E message -

SQL793E
  Message . . . . :   MERGE statement complete.
  Cause . . . . . :   The MERGE statement completed successfully for 
table or
    view &1 in &2. &3 rows inserted. &4 rows updated. &5 rows deleted.
