But it depends on what James meant by exporting. I took it to mean an

I was actually asking mainly in the abstract; a customer had asked about such a capability in our QuestView product. It didn't exactly seem like something that would be within QuestView's normal scope (although later, I found that we'd built such a capability into the client-server extension to the product), and sounded more like something that would be built into the operating system.

The last thing I wanted to do was reinvent any wheels. I can think of much more entertaining ways to waste my time.
