Yes, Buck is definitely on stackexchange. He has attempted to answer one of
my questions there. Mailing lists are great for discussion. Stackexchange
is great when its a clear question/answer, even if there is some nuance and
exposition to get to that clarity.
To appreciate the true power of stackexchange, you need to google for
questions in areas where SE is popular namely, linux, and windows, and the
development platforms for them, and see the questions have already been
answered. The medium and rules aren't good for building a community. They
do however leave a body of knowledge that grows organically.

In some alternative universe where more AS/400 operators hang out on
serverfault, or there is a separate IBMi stackexchange site, I guarantee
there would be question with several hundred votes about how to turn a
query into something excel can read, or perhaps three, one for CSV, one for
XLS, and one for XLSX. There is a lot to say on the matter, but there is a
finite amount to say on the general subject.

Good things to consider, Justin - I'd not thought of the SEO thing.

I know some of us are on stackexchange, I have been there, but i don't
spend a lot of time there. I think Buck might be, but have been wrong a
couple times already today.

IBM i is still not known or discussed much in general forums - more's the
pity, perhaps.

Thanks

Vernon,

If that's there are differences in SPROCS for DB2/400 compared to the
other
DB2 flavors, then you have a point, and I'm giving bad advice based on my
ignorance.

There is a dearth of IBMi advice on dba.stackexchange.com, and questions
take a while to get answered, Serverfault is a little better for
operations
stuff. I generally do like to put more black and white questions on
stackexchange (on any computing platform) because the answers can evolve
into good canonical questions with lots of commentary, and the SEO is
better than mailing list archives so more people learn from my question in
the future..

Do you really find stackflow good for IBM i SQL? Especially with regards
to stored procedures, there are things that are specific to IBM i that
might not be discussed there - unless you find one of us replying.

StFl is great, and I have learned a lot from more general SQL resource -
just hoping to avoid confusion for someone kind of new to this stuff.

Hello,

While there is a lot of DB2 knowledge here, you might find
http://dba.stackexchange.com a better source for SQL syntax questions.
