The whole thing is new to 7.1 and 7.2 based on a certain TR level for
each. The Update Available actually goes out to IBM and checks their
machine to see if there is an update available to whatever "Currently
Installed" level you are at. I'm guessing consumes a web service or some
such thing.

I just ran this on both 7.1 and 7.2 lpars.

It's in the infocenter for both and you can google it to see more.

Until they get it to stop reporting update available for stuff that you've
already downloaded but don't have applied it's not quite ready for the
next step:
